چکیده

In this paper we present refinement modal logic. A refinement is like a bisimulation, except that from the three relational requirements only ‘atoms’ and ‘back’ need to be satisfied. Our logic contains a new operator ∀ in additional to the standard modalities 2 for each agent. The operator ∀ acts as a quantifier over the set of all refinements of a given model. We call it the refinement operator. As a variation on a bisimulation quantifier, it can be seen as a refinement quantifier over a variable not occurring in the formula bound by the operator. The logic combines the simplicity of multi-agent modal logic with some powers of monadic second order quantification. We present a sound and complete axiomatization of multiagent refinement modal logic. We also present an extension of the logic to the modal μ-calculus, and an axiomatization for the single-agent version of this logic. Examples and applications are also discussed: to software verification and design (the set of agents can also be seen as a set of actions), and to dynamic epistemic logic. We further give detailed results on the complexity of satisfiability, and on succinctness.

Algebraic semantics of refinement modal logic

We develop algebraic semantics of refinement modal logic using duality theory. Refinement modal logic has quantifiers that are interpreted using a refinement relation. A refinement relation is like a bisimulation, except that from the three relational requirements only ‘atoms’ and ‘back’ have to be satisfied. We study the dual notion of refinement on algebras and present algebraic semantics of ...

Towards a Many-Dimensional Modal Logic for Semantic Processing

Notions of context for natural language interpretation are factored in terms of three processes: translation, entailment and attunement. The processes are linked by accessibility relations of the kind studied in many-dimensional modal logic, modulo complications from constraints between translation and entailment (violations in which may trigger re-attunement) and from refinement and underspeci...

Refinement Quantified Logics of Knowledge and Belief for Multiple Agentsc

Given the “possible worlds” interpretation of modal logic, a refinement of a Kripke model is another Kripke model in which an agent has ruled out some possible worlds to be consistent with some new information. The refinements of a finite Kripke model have been shown to correspond to the results of applying arbitrary action models to the Kripke model [10]. Refinement modal logics add quantifier...

Future Event Logic - Axioms and Complexity

In this paper we present a sound and complete axiomatization of future event logic. Future event logic is a logic that generalizes a number of dynamic epistemic logics, by using a new operator . that acts as a quantifier over the set of all refinements of a given model. (A refinement is like a bisimulation except that from the three relational requirements only ‘atoms’ and ‘back’ need to be sat...

Closing a Gap in the Complexity of Refinement Modal Logic

Refinement Modal Logic (RML), which was recently introduced by Bozzelli et al., is an extension of classical modal logic which allows one to reason about a changing model. In this paper we study computational complexity questions related to this logic, settling a number of open problems. Specifically, we study the complexity of satisfiability for the existential fragment of RML, a problem posed...
